Panos Jimas

“the winegrower”

“As a child I had a festive mood every September; I trod the grapes to help my parents and their friends to perform traditional vinifications.

Since then, I graduated as a Chemist and Oenologist, I published my research works in scientific journals, and I was accredited the MSc in Food Science & Technology. I worked as a Chemist-Oenologist in several posts, but I faced my destiny when I established the first vineyard in my grandfather’s land.

I became proud when I received with merit the prestigious WSET Diploma in Wine & Spirits, after 3 years studies in WSPC, where I enjoy the post of educator and quality assurance coordinator.”

the family

DipWSET Panos Jimas and his wife Dr Kristy Karagiannidou manage the winery. Kristy operates a private pediatric and homeopathy practice in Ioannina. The Agronomist Nikos Tzimas attends the vineyards, and he is a production and operations assistant.

the grange

The winery was established in our grandfather’s grange surrounded by gardens, next to their house and the old orange grove. The harmony and the tranquility of that environment is ideal to breed and mature our wines.

The grange is located in Kalomodia hamlet close to Arta town. Arta is the second biggest town of Epirus in Northwest part of Greece and has a long history that dates back to 630 BC. The prefecture of Arta is famous for the old stone bridges that cross Arachthos river and the old Christian churches that were built during Byzantine Empire.

the winery

The winery as establishment used to be an old warehouse which was transformed into a charming building by the gifted Architect Athanasios Stergioulis.

There, the wines ferment into temperature controlled inox tanks. We apply only gentle pressure, by using an electric vertical basket press, to separate the freshly made wine, in the case of red vinification, or the grape juice, in the case of rose vinification.

The insulated cava has a controlled temperature of 16oC. There our wines mature in oak barriques and age in bottles before they are released to the market.

the stork

Our emblem represents the Stork that bears a bunch of grapes. During the growing season, the Stork walks among our vines seeking food. It is a symbol of journey and return to a land where plant cultivation, sheep raising, and fishing coexist since ancient times.

“Stork returns to our grandfather’s land in Kalomodia, a few miles away from Ambracian Gulf, for each unique vintage, during budburst.”
